Introduction The Youth Sport Trust plays a central role in supporting the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in the delivery of the PE & Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP). The PESSYP strategy sets out how the Olympic legacy aim to get more children and young people taking part in high quality PE and sport will be reached, through the delivery

  • f the five hour offer.

By the end of this session you should be able to:

  • Describe the ‘5 hour Offer’
  • Define the 10 work strands of the PESSYP strategy and identify

key points from each strand

  • Explain the structure of a School Sport Partnership (SSP)

The Youth Sport Trust and Sport England are working with the DCSF and the DCMS on ways to help local delivery partners offer all young people aged five to 16 the opportunity to participate in five hours a week of PE and sport (three hours for 16 to 19 year olds).

Continued Professional Development

This PESSYP work strand aims to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Physical Education and school sport through a coordinated national professional development programme for teachers, adults supporting learning and coaches working in a school setting, which:

  • ensures that the professional

development programme is placed strategically to support PESSYP (the five hour offer) and is a major contribution to raising achievement and reducing attainment gaps in young people aged 5-16
