designed to meet the specific needs of students attending LCPS high schools
Serves over 500 students countywide Admission to and success in college are among
the goals of the program.
Mandatory CAMPUS classes and/or meetings Structured curriculum
college preparation application & admissions process financial aid & scholarship preparation time management study skills self-advocacy skills leadership development
Grade Level Action Plans
All students are assigned “tasks” in Family Connection. These tasks are listed below by grade level, as well as recommendations that students should follow to best prepare themselves in the college application process.
9th Grade
Attend the LCPS College Fair Complete Career Cluster Finder Write 1 – 2 essays answering given prompts (prompts derived from The Common Application) Begin to build Resume Become involved in extracurricular activities
10th Grade
Attend the LCPS College Fair Complete Career Interest Profiler Explore RoadTrip Nation Perform College Search Build/Edit Resume Write 1 – 2 essays answering given prompts (prompts derived from The Common Application) Attend college visit to Northern Virginia Community College
11th Grade
Attend the LCPS College Fair Register/Attend in-school college visits Complete Strengths Explorer Perform College Search Build/Edit Resume Write 1 – 2 essays answering given prompts (prompts derived from The Common Application) Take ACT and/or SAT during spring months Participate in Job for a Day Attend college visit to George Mason University
12th Grade
Attend the LCPS College Fair Register/Attend in-school college visits Complete Resume Take the October ACT and/or SAT Begin college applications - College Board recommends applying to 3 - 4 colleges Attend a financial aid presentation Apply for a minimum of 3 scholarships – if eligible, the Gates-Millennium should be one of them Complete Graduation Survey Complete Senior Celebration Survey
Visit various types of colleges and
universities
Students are encouraged to attend at least
Serve as representatives for the CAMPUS
Program
Participate in leadership opportunities Serve as a liaison to CAMPUS students
