About Agora Cyber • Free, public cyber charter school • We are a school of choice for our students who all live in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and serve a diverse population • 70% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch • 30% of our students have an IEP • Our teachers deliver daily, live, synchronous online instruction that is designed to engage our students and provide a sense of community. Our format promotes the key themes of digital citizenship • • Current enrollment is approximately 5,800 students in grades K-12
S ELECTION: Candidates, Timeline, and Procedures 1. August – Cumulative grade point averages pulled with 3.4 or higher. 2. Invites sent to students via school email (cc parents) first week of school. Approx. 335 students. 3. S tudents complete Candidate Form and essay (within the first 2 weeks of school). 4. The NHS faculty council takes time to review applications and essays. By October 1 st students are chosen following the 5. pillars of NHS (97 students). 6. Induction is done online within 2 weeks after students chosen.
INDUCTION • Date is chosen which is best for all administration within the school. • Induction is held online with students, parents, administration and teachers. • The induction is put together by the adviser, co-adviser and NHS officers (PowerPoint). • Most of the induction is conducted by adviser, co-adviser and NHS officers.
COMMUNICATION and MANAGEMENT • NHS run by Adviser, Co-Adviser, and NHS Faculty Council. • All communication goes through our school email system. • Elections completed by sending communication/ meeting and having them make a slide of whom interested in being an officer. • Monthly meetings held with NHS faculty and students. We are in the process of adapting to a more effective online version of parliamentary procedure.
S TUDENT COLLABORATION MODES • Email (teacher to student and student to teacher only; students cannot send email to each other through the school system) • Google • Classrooms • Phone calls
S ERVICE and LEADERS HIP • S ervice hours are collected through google forms. S tudents submit hours, along with signatures and pictures. • Volunteering locally to their homes or within their communities, homes, and families. Agora current ly of f ers service hour opport unit ies such as: – Elementary Mentor Program – Assembly Committee – Agora Elves – Buddy Program – Canned food collection – Tutoring weekly – Literacy Program (Covid – 19) • slide of appreciation for teachers and administrators during the time • Making videos and sharing for students/staff
INDUCTION ES S ENTIALS Inductee Announcement — The chapt er adviser or a member of t he school administ rat ion must announce t he list of new induct ees. Acceptance of the Membership Pledge — Induct ees must recit e or ot herwise confirm your chapt er’s membership pledge. Official Conferring of Membership — Membership must be best owed upon new members by an official document , an official announcement , or a t oken of membership such as a pin.
MODES of COMMUNICATION Written Documentation —Inductee announcements and the conferring of membership can be completed by publishing written documents on school websites and/or sent via email. Affirmation of membership can be collected via a form with signature from each inductee. Audio/ Visual Recordings —Announcements and membership pledges can be pre-recorded and distributed virtually. Virtual Meeting or Live Streaming —A virtual meeting or livestreamed event can allow multiple inductees to participate in a live ceremony.
