What are SATs?

  • These are tests that the government set for all children who

are in year 6

  • A new national curriculum was introduced in 2014. As a

result, the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) changed the tests so that they assess the new curriculum. Pupils took the new tests for the first time in May 2016.

  • There are no longer levels instead pupils receive a scaled
  • score. This will advise whether pupils have met the national

standard or not.

slide-6
SLIDE 6

Scaled Scores

  • A pupil’s scaled score is based on their raw score. The raw

score is the total number of marks a pupil receives in a test, based on the number of questions they answered

  • correctly. The pupil’s raw score is translated into a scaled

score using a conversion table. A pupil who achieves the national standard will have demonstrated sufficient knowledge in the areas assessed by the tests. This will mean that they are well placed to succeed in the next phase of their education.

  • In the past, there have been level 6 tests for pupils who

can demonstrate attainment above level 5. Instead the tests have been developed so that there is scope for higher attaining pupils to show their strengths.

SLIDE 8

Pass, Fail and Greater Depth

  • A scaled score of 100 is a pass.
  • If a child receives a scaled score of 110 or above then they are

working well above the national average and are considered to be working at greater depth.

The Reading Test

  • Focus on skills involved in reading,

“Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness

  • ut of the air around them. Even

Muggles feel their presence, though they can’t see them. Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked

  • ut of you. If it can, the Dementor

will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself — soul-less and evil. You’ll be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life.”

Forced into darkness, the Hogwarts Express juddered to a sudden, unexpected halt. Cold descended, infesting every crevice and heartbeat it could find – death had arrived. Between the anxious witches and wizards, condensation formed in white puffs as their hot breath collided with the icy atmosphere and fell into the mist. Glass crackled while frost engulfed the frozen window panes, creating a curious white pattern, like lace on a silk dress. As silence swallowed the passengers, meandering tatters of black, burlap cloak edged into sight followed by an obscured, soul-less figure, breathing heavily beneath the dishevelled materials. A bony hand

  • emerged. Winding its fingers around the

carriage door, it forced itself into the seated area where the children assembled. Driven by duty and purpose, the creature latched on to Harry and began feasting, eagerly on his soul – his happiness, his joy, the love from his heart – escaped his innocent lips.
