  2. South Australian Resources and Energy Overview SA minerals operations have achieved a ‘decade of growth’ • Highest minerals production & processing values on record – almost $6bn annually • On track to reach estimated target of $10bn annually by 2020 • Numerous minerals projects close to approvals. Many awaiting stimuli. Eg: - Financial investment - Increase in international demand for minerals - Infrastructure • BHPB has committed to spending more than $650 million additionally over 4 years at Olympic Dam on mining and processing technology improvements, and on other initiatives within South Australia The Unconventional Gas revolution is underway • The development of unconventional gas in North America is proving an economic transformation The USA has gone from being a net importer of energy about a decade ago, to now being a net exporter of energy. • More than 20 companies and 10 joint ventures are now focusing on exploring unconventional gas plays with giant discovery potential in South Australia • All players in the unconventional gas space have a common interest in efficient, high quality and competitive supply chains "The Journey to "Be Ready"

  3. Industry Participation Office Industry Participation Office has been established within DMITRE: Vision “Strategically develop capability and capacity of South Australian businesses, to maximise local industry participation into the resources and energy areas” Strategy “Listen to industry and assist with developing innovative, high value- add solutions” "The Journey to "Be Ready"

  4. Industry Participation Office What is industry telling us? Minerals & Energy companies: Need competitive pricing and delivery, greater visibility of capacity and capabilities, innovative solutions. Suppliers: Need greater visibility of supply chains and opportunities. "The Journey to "Be Ready"

  7. MIPO Web Portal – www.dmitre.sa.gov.au Launched on the 5 July 2013, the MIPO web portal outlines the objectives of MIPO and provides strategic direction to South Australian suppliers on how to participate in the resource sector The question is asked. “Are you Resource Ready?” Directed to Major Projects Readiness Indicator MIPO Advisory Council "The Journey to "Be Ready"

  8. MIPO Dashboard - www.dmitre.sa.gov.au The Mining Dashboard provides project status for each of the developing and operating projects in SA contact information for major operating and development projects in South Australia Traffic light system to indicate the phase the particular project is in Download in shopping cart for business development "The Journey to "Be Ready"

  9. Capability Development - www.dmitre.sa.gov.au The MIPO web portal contains links to various assistance resources to help make South Australian Suppliers ‘Resource Ready’ These include information on the minerals and energy resource pipeline, ICN details and growth tools such as the small business portal and EFIC Information on Professional development Programs "The Journey to "Be Ready"

  10. Oil and Gas in South Australia Oil & Gas in South Australia has significant potential for growth. 20 companies and 10 joint ventures in SA currently either undergoing appraisal or production activities Bight Basin Cooper Basin A world class hydrocarbon province (Australia’s largest & Significantly under explored to date. BP is currently undertaking a leading exploration prospect in this most mature onshore) for 50+ years . area. Otway Basin Arckaringa Basin Contains both mature and immature conventional and Emerging as a major unconventional resource unconventional oil and gas plays, with high potential for with independent reports highlighting the significant further discoveries. shale oil potentia l. Roundtable formed for Unconventional Gas in SA • 312 organisations now participating • Five working groups now established to address key issues facing Un/con gas in SA. These are: 1. A regional hub for training and service providers 2. Efficient and fit-for-purpose depot-hubs, roads, rail and airstrips 3. Efficient and fit-for-purpose water use in the Cooper-Eromanga basins. 4. An industry-government partnership to maintain safe and sustainable transport with reduced red tape along SA- Qld ‘wharf to well’ corridors 5. Innovation towards cost-effective and trustworthy GHG detection. "The Journey to "Be Ready"

  11. Unconventional gas opportunities for SA industry The Mining Industry Participation Office (MIPO) has mapped the high- level value chain of an unconventional gas well. Five key initial opportunities have been identified for SA industry to further develop. These are: 1. Greater SA involvement in components of “well development” consumables ie; guar gum, sand, mud, cement & chemicals etc. 2. Development of a petroleum, onshore, production skills centre 3. Increase in SA manufacture of consumables in drilling string, ie; bits, reamers, stabilisers etc. 4. South Australian companies having a greater involvement in “Rig Movement Packages” for unconventional wells 5. South Australian Research Institutions ie: Aust. School of Petroleum, IMER & Ian Wark assisting companies with technical & practical testing. The work to identify additional gaps is set to continue. "The Journey to "Be Ready"
