THIS WEEK’S ANNIVERSARIES 2nd Feb Eustachy Arend, Patrick McCallum, Kathleen Pennington 3rd Kathleen Mills 4th Owen Dowling, Daniel Murphy 5th Louisa Bryan 8th Robert Britton 6th Laurence Wintle 9th Eileen Deasy

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon

  • them. May their souls and those of all the faithful departed,

through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Vocation Matters

Written by Fr Matt Anscombe, our diocesan Vocations Director, these re- flections will help us to be constantly reminded that God chooses each one

  • f us in Christ, and that we are called to discover his plan for ourselves in

the midst of the Church. “My eyes have seen the salvation” The American patriotic song ‘The Battle Hymn of the Republic’, starts with the famous line “Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord”, before moving in to its chorus of ‘Glory, Glory, Hallelujahs’. Have our eyes really seen that glory? To follow Christ closely, we all need to confess, as Simeon did, that in Jesus is salvation. In Him there is liberation from all enslavements, which hold us back from living out God’s will in our lives. Acknowledging this day in and day out, we will be able to discern more deeply how God is calling us to serve, so that His truth keeps marching on.

Elders.: That the Church and society may respect the wisdom and experience of

  • lder people.

Collaboration in Evangelization: That priests, religious, and lay people may work together with generosity.

JUSTICE & PEACE

The Justice & Peace group would like to take the opportunity to raise any topi- cal issues worth prayer or action each week for you to consider. Pope Francis said in 'the Joy of the Gospel': “Not to share ones wealth with the poor is to steal from them and to take away their livelihood. It is not our

  • wn goods that we hold but theirs.. a financial reform open to such

ethical considerations would require a vigorous change of approach. Money must serve not rule “
