  1. THE CRUCIFIXION and RESURRECTION of CHRIST 1 Dr. JoLynn Gower, Executive Director Christian Resource Center P. O. Box 744; Savoy, IL 217-493-6151 jgower@guardingthetruth.org

  2. WHERE TROUBLE STARTED 2 Genesis 1:26-28 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image , according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and o the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over ev creeping thing that creeps on the earth." God created man in His own ima in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. G blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of th sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Genesis 3:13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" And the woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate." 1 Timothy 2:14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woma being deceived, fell into transgression. ´ GOD IS SINLESS; SINNERS ARE NOT LIKE HIM Genesis 5:3 When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him S

  3. THE TERRIBLE RESULT 3 eath entered: Genesis 2:16-17 The LORD God commanded the man, aying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree e knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you ea om it you will surely die.” ankind’s control of earth was lost: John 12:31 “Now judgment is up is world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.” an is in slavery: John 8:34 Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say ou, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. o one would spend eternity with God: Romans 4:14 For if those who re of the Law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise is nullified; MANKIND WAS IN A TERRIBLE STATE; EVEN THE LAW, WHEN FINALLY GIVEN, COULD NOT CHANGE THE LOST STATE OF MAN alatians 3:21-22 … For if a law had been given which was able to impar fe, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.

  4. ENTER THE LAW 4 Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! O the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; Galatians 3:23-24 But before faith came, we were kept in custody unde the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. Theref the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be just by faith. THE LAW PROVIDED A REDEMPTION MODEL; WE HAD NO ONE ELIGIBLE MAKE THE REDEMPTION. Why? The Redeemer had to be a blood relative (nearest who was able/willing) The Redeemer had to be willing (this was going to cost something) The Redeemer had to be able (a slave must redeem himself before he is a to redeem another slave)

  5. DUTIES OF KINSMAN REDEEMER: GA’AL 5 Redeem his relative who was in slavery (we are in slavery to sin) Redeem the land his relative lost (we lost the earth) Serve as guiltless judicial executioner of his kinsman’s murderer ( John 8: "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning…) Married the woman who had no heirs; produced heir for the original husb PEOPLE NEEDED REDEMPTION IN ALL FOUR AREAS BUT LACKED A RELA WHO WASN’T BORN OF THE SEED OF MAN, THUS BORN INTO SLAVERY Hebrews 2:14-15 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might re powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might f those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. Luke 1:35 The angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will com upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for t reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

  6. JESUS FULFILLS THE LAW 6 Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.” Ephesians 1:9-10 He made known to us the mystery of His will, accord to His kind intention which He purposed in Him with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing u all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. HOW DID JESUS DO THIS? AS THE KINSMAN REDEEMER. WHAT PRICE DID HE Exodus 12:21-23 "Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slay the Passover lamb. You shall take a bunch of hyssop an it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outsid the door of his house until morning. For the LORD will pass through to sm the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroy to come in to your houses to smite you. ”

  7. GOD’S LAMB 7 Exodus 12:14 Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations you are t celebrate it as a permanent ordinance. John 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! The Passover Ritual: Nisan 10: the lamb to be sacrificed was chosen and presented at the temp Matthew 21:8-12 Most of the crowd spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the roa The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David; BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME THE LORD; Hosanna in the highest!" When He had entered Jerusalem, all city was stirred, saying, "Who is this?" The crowds were saying, "This is th prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee." Jesus entered the temple and dr out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned th tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling dov

  8. LAST SUPPER 8 fter entering Jerusalem on Nisan 10, the Bible records three teaching days onday, Tuesday, Wednesday Luke 22:19-20 And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He roke it and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you his in remembrance of Me." And in the same way He took the cup after the ad eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covena y blood. 3 Matza on the plate at beginning of meal; center one broken; half wrapped The broken piece of matza, called the afikomen, is the last thing eaten The cup after supper ( 1 Corinthians 11:25 In the same way He took the lso after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do thi often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”) The cup after supper foretold the Messiah Matthew 26:39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face an rayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not I will, but as You will."

  9. PASSOVER WEEK 9 isan 14, which would have been Thursday, was the Day of Preparation un undown ohn 19:13-14 Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Je out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement, b Hebrew, Gabbatha. Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it bout the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold, your King!" The lambs began to be sacrificed at the 9 th hour (3:00 PM) atthew 27:46, 50, 51 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a lou oice, saying, "ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?" … And Jesus cried out again with a loud oice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was t n two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. Yielded: aphiemi: allowed; permitted Hebrews 9:16 For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be death of the one who made it. Diatheke: last will and testament

  10. ABOUT THE VEIL 10

  11. THE TORN VEIL 11 Behind the veil was the ark of the covenant (first temple only) where the blood was sprinkled on the Day of Atonement by the High Priest Hebrews 8:4-5 Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at al since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law; who serve copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned by God when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, " SEE ," He says, " THAT YOU M all things ACCORDING TO THE PATTERN WHICH WAS SHOWN YOU ON THE MOUNT Hebrews 8:1-2 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we ha such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.
