PhD contract

• Duration :

Three years full-time equivalent, or maximum of 6 years otherwise

• Time out :

Possibility to to take time out from the PhD contract for a maximum of 1 year (unrecorded in the duration of the thesis). Permission of the PhD supervisor and the director of the Ecole Doctorale required.

• Charte du doctorat :

Outlines the conditions of the PhD supervision

• Convention de formation :

Signing of a Convention de Formation between the supervisor and the PhD student (information on the professional project, research program, etc)

• Thesis Committee (Comité de suivi de thèse) :

Individual follow-up committee to ensure the progress of the PhD student’s work, make recommendations, prevent potential conflicts, etc

Thesis defense

• Submission deadline:

The thesis manuscript has to be submitted one month before the date of the defense.

• External examiners :

Written reports have to be transmitted to the Collège Doctoral 14 days before the defense. The President of the University gives the authorization of the defense if these reports are positive.

• Thesis in English

Possibility to write the thesis in English: authorization required from the President of the University (requested by the PhD supervisor).

Teaching

• No more DCACE status
• Possibility to teach for a maximum of 64h ETD (equivalent of

seminar classes), hourly-rate payment (41.16 €)

• No possibility to teach during the first year

Consultancy work in companies

• Max of 32 days per year (268h)
• Hourly-rate payment = at least the double of the teaching hourly-rate

payment (2x 41.16 €)

Salary (1)

Three possible complementary missions:

Gross monthly earnings : 1 758 €

Teaching and scientific dissemination:

Possibility to combine these two missions for a maximum of 64h ETD/year

• If the missions are mentioned in the PhD contract: commitment to

engage either in 32h or 64h of teaching and/or scientific dissemination  Monthly payments

• If the missions are not mentioned in the PhD contract: semi-annual payments

Conditions for teaching

PhD students have two options:

• Teach less than 18h: no requirements for selection
• Teach more than 18h:
• Attend a training module

(teaching tools for verbal communication, ethical guidelines, etc)

Doctoral Trainings

DOCTORAL TRAININGS

All PhD students must follow specific training for 100 hours, divided as follows:

• 1/3 of professional training managed by the Collège Doctoral : focus on the preparation of the

professional integration, the understanding of the academic world, the internationalization of research and on the understanding of businesses and entrepreneurship. Language development is also offered as PhD students are often asked to publish and communicate in workshops or conferences in French or English. The training catalogue was distributed today, the registrations are opened !

• 1/3 of specialized training organized by the research units to give students specific knowledge

linked with their research project. They may consist of conferences, workshops, study sessions in France or abroad, or be linked to the activities of the research unit.

• 1/3 of thematic training which aim to extend the spectrum of knowledge and the scientific

training of the PhD students. They are organized by the Doctoral Schools, often as seminars regrouping all the PhD students of the COMUE Léonard de Vinci . If the 100 hours are not followed, the thesis director and the Director of the Doctoral school may not authorize the thesis defense.

DOCTORAL TRAININGS

REGISTRATION FOR DOCTORAL TRAININGS Online registration: on the Université de Limoges website www.unilim.fr, connect on “ENT” with your ID and password (your student account must be active).

• Under the “Scolarité” section, click on “Inscription aux formations doctorales” to log on to the

AMETHIS platform.

• Click on “rechercher une formation” to see the modules available
• Select and click on “postulez” to validate your registration.

Before any registration, you need to inform your thesis director of the modules and the dates chosen. You can register and cancel your registration up to 10 days before the module. After this period, only a health certificate or a family emergency can justify an absence. Moreover, any absence will be reported if not justified to the Collège Doctoral at the latest 48 hours after the training session. Your hour count is visible on the AMETHIS Platform, under the “formations suivies” section.

DOCTORAL TRAININGS

EXTERNAL TRAINING VALIDATION Following a number of conditions fixed by the doctoral schools, outside conferences, colloquiums

• r workshops can count for your doctoral hours.

You must ask for validation from the secretary of your doctoral school. Please send all the documents that can support your request (attendance certificate, program, …) The director of the doctoral school will then consider your request, and if accepted, the training session will appear on your hour count.
