FLATHEAD GROWS! SEED LIBRARY

PROJECT OBJECTIVE/INTENT With hands on learning at the forefront, a seed library in Columbia Falls will promote community building through gardening and preserving local knowledge. The role of the library as community convener and facilitator for content creation will be emphasized as we seek to partner with Columbia Falls groups and organizations already focused on community building, gardening and retaining local knowledge. The long-term impact of this project will be a more unified community as the library bridges the gap between long-term and newer residents through shared passion for food security, a respect for local knowledge and a desire to build strong network of relationships in the community. SCOPE DELIVERABLES  The library will facilitate the creation of and house a seed library at the CF facility.  The library will secure a partnership for the ongoing care, maintenance and ultimate ownership of the seed library.  The library will help coordinate and promote quarterly workshops to provide training on seed cleaning and saving.  Library curation of online training videos and tutorials to make information available 24/7 will be explored and decided upon during the planning phases of the project.  The library will develop an evaluation plan that includes looking at the types of connections, knowledge shared and community building that results from the seed library. EXCLUSIONS  The seeds will not be catalogued in the Montana Shared Catalog.  Seeds will not be sent to other ImagineIF locations or Partner Libraries.  Only seeds will be part of the collection, no rhizomes, roots, or other plant starts ASSUMPTIONS  The seed library will be piloted at ImagineIF Columbia Falls for 6 months with potential to be introduced at

  • ther locations.

 The library will be a community convener and play a support role in the ongoing maintenance of the seed library.  The seed library will be run by volunteers, not library staff.  A library card will not be required to access the seed library.
