What is….? What is law, what is declaration and convention and how is that connected to the children's rights? Declarations and conventions Declaration is a set of documents that have only moral strength Convention is an agreement that has the power of the law and its signatories are obliged to abide by the regulations from the convention That also includes the right to monitor if all regulations from the convention are applied accordingly in the countries which have accepted and ratified the convention The UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) on 20 November 1989 There are 196 countries in the world and 194 out of them have signed the CRC Why were children's rights separated? Declaration of Human Rights was the first all-conquering instrument for the protection of human rights It was adopted by the UN General Assembly (1948) It was considered that there is a need for making a separate document about

  2. 2 the protection of children’s rights because of their cognitive, emotional and physical immaturity Children’s rights (and human rights) are inherited rights and every child has its rights from the moment of birth Children’s rights are applied to every child no matter skin color, gender or nationality or any other factor Law, Children Ombudsman, Associations Every country provides the implementation of the Convention through law and Constitution Law is the most important legal rule and all other regulations are based on the law Law is a system that regulates and ensures that individuals or a community adhere to the will of the authority (country). Disrespect of the law has consequences in form of penalization or punishment Which laws protect children's rights? Children's rights are also elaborated in numerous laws Some of them are Criminal law, Family law, Law of Upbringing and Education charge of protecting and promoting children’s rights Children Ombudsman is in charge of protecting children’s rights too There are also numerous associations that are connected to the protection of children’s rights and children can ask them for advice or help One of the most famous associations for children’s rights in Croatia is Hrabri Telefon (Brave phone) Explore Students explore laws regulating children's rights They looking for articles in the media about child rights violations
