The Village of Pozieres was liberated by Soldiers of the AFI in 1916 with massive losses. South Australian Soldiers served in the 10th, 27th and 50th Battalions, and in the com- bined 12th, 16th and 52nd Battalions, losing over 800 Men in the battle. The Bayonet was recovered from the fields of the Village.
