ISAIAH 45

This is the passage that is most often given as the proof text for the crazy notion that there were two Isaiahs or, according to some silly folks, three Isaiahs—largely because of the “chapter divisions” which are not inspired!

• So, in believing that this was simply a chronological account written of events

some 150 years after Isaiah wrote in 686 BC, because that is when Cyrus actually comes on the scene, there must have been two or three Isaiahs.

• Real issue—well, that would be because they do not believe in inspiration—

God-breathed scriptures. As Peter recorded in 2 Peter 1: 21, “for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”

• In other words, God wrote the Word—Isaiah simply wrote what God told him

to write.

• God’s bragging a little bit—“I have called you by your name,” Cyrus, over 150

years before you were born! v. 4

• Here we have a message from an extraterrestrial source that is outside of
• ur time domain—God speaking to man.
• God also describes the walls and gates of a city that would be attacked by a

very specific military tactic; that would also be written down by Cyrus in his chronicles.

• We get introduced to the real Light of the World that we meet in person in

John’s gospel—Jesus Christ, the Light of the World. v. 5-7 “That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world.” John 1:9

AN AMAZING CLAIM

Jesus actually created light and He himself is the Light. John 8:12

• He was not the sun (the physical light of the world), but He is greater than the

sun, for He created the sun! “For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven.” Colossians 1:16. “All things were made by Him.” John 1:3

• God, in the beginning (Genesis 1), created heaven and earth, but we are told He

“created all things by Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 3:9

• The Bible plainly teaches that Jesus Christ, the Creator, is also the Conserver. He

upholds everything by His own power! “By Him all things consist” (Col. 1:17)— this includes the entire cosmos.

• In Newtonian physics, energy which includes all the varieties of force and

energy in nature—light, heat, sound, electricity, magnetism, chemical energy, etc.—everything except gravity and nuclear energy, cannot be created or

• destroyed. The Bible says Jesus is the Conserver of all energy.

WHY DO MEN STRIVE WITH GOD? v. 8-17

Most often it is because we have the wrong concepts and understanding of who God is.

• He loves us and wants only His best. He is not capricious nor angry.
• He created us exactly as He desired and designed us.
• We are not mistakes—we were purposely made by the Master Potter.
• God said His purposes towards us are “of peace and not of evil.” Jer. 29:11

Why should we fight the One who made us?

• God made Cyrus for a divine purpose, and He made you and me for a divine

purpose as well.

• We were created for God’s will. God is not a glorified Santa Claus that I dial

up in prayer to get my will done. His plan is for us to accomplish His will— and that is how we should pray.

WHO IS LIKE CREATOR GOD? v. 18-25

There are some creationists who use this particular scripture to support what is known as the Gap Theory, or the place for the “Ages” of the Day Age Theory.

• The Gap Theory is based on the hypothesis that between verses 1 and 2 of

Genesis 1, there is a gap of an indeterminate period of time. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

• There are Bible scholars who believe that there is a gap of time between that

verse and the next which declares, “And the earth was without form, and void”—specifically, the 13.6 billion years of the Big Bang and evolution/chaos and death before death entered into the world.

• This clearly flies in the face of what Paul taught in Romans 5:12-14, which

states there was no death at all until Adam sinned.

GOD ALONE IS CREATOR—NO MATTER HOW HE ACCOMPLISHED IT!

• Man is still looking for so many answers to the most difficult questions of our
• existence. Truly, we know very little about the universe in which we live.
• A vast majority of the gods that men have created are nothing more than
• anthropomorphisms. We create gods that are just like us, only a tad more

powerful and creative—like Atlas, Zeus, Jupiter, Neptune, Poseidon, Ra/Re, Anubis, Osiris, Thor, Odin, Vishnu, Lakshmi, and Quetzalcoatl, to name a few.

• God said, “I declare things that are right.” v. 19 “I have sworn by Myself.” v. 23

I am one and there are none like me.

• The day will come when every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess

that Jesus Christ is the Lord to the glory of God the Father. Phil. 2:5-11 God desires that we do that before we meet Him—not after!
