Registering marriage in Malta  Need to change the husband ’ s marital status  Original documents to be kept and never returned  Demand of obtaining Freedom of Movement despite already having it as an EU citizen

Freedom of Movement  To change ID card EU citizen has to apply for Freedom of Movement  Told that national law instead of EU law applies  Cannot apply without the presence of the husband

ID card  Without Freedom of Movement no ID card  No ID card no vaccines for my baby  Husband has to apply for my ID Card on my behalf  Being married to a Maltese citizen deprived me of my right to apply myself as a student/employee

Conclusion From an attempt to register a marriage, a series of further issues followed: No Freedom of Movement = No ID Card = No vaccinations What situations dictate that EU laws and regulations would be over-ruled by National Law? How can a common citizen recognize when this applies?
