The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Programme

Objective “Ensure the optimum development and dynamic use

  • f Europe’s intellectual capital in order to generate

new skills and innovation.”

Total budget (2014-20): € 6.2 billion (current prices)

▪ Fostering new skills through excellent initial training of researchers ▪ Nurturing excellence through cross-border and cross-sector mobility ▪ Stimulating innovation through cross-fertilisation of knowledge ▪ Increasing structural impact by co-funding the activities ▪ Specific support and policy action

slide-3
SLIDE 3

▪ Mobility as the key requirement - funding on condition participants move from one country to another ▪ Promotion of attractive working and employment conditions ▪ Particular attention to gender balance ▪ Funding levels maintained ▪ Main features (bottom-up, mobility, career development, gender balance, employment conditions) maintained ▪ Broader definition of industry involvement: participation of businesses (including SMEs) and other socio-economic actors

MSCA in Horizon 2020

slide-4
SLIDE 4

▪ EU contribution based on unit costs calculated on the basis researcher-months ▪ Allowances for the researcher (living, mobility and family allowance) ▪ Unit costs for research, training and networking ▪ Unit costs for management and overheads ▪ Calls: ▪ Yearly calls ▪ Application through the Participant portal ▪ EU-Office and NCPs to help with application

▪ Dedicated to early-stage researchers: in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their career and not awarded a PhD at the time of their (first) recruitment. ▪ Involving wide partnership of institutions from academic and non- academic sectors ▪ 3 implementation modes: ➢ ETN (European Training Networks) - 369.48 MEUR – 8 scientific panels ➢ EID (European Industrial Doctorates) - 25.5 MEUR – separate evaluation panel ➢ EJD (European Joint Doctorates) - 30 MEUR – separate evaluation panel

Innovative Training Networks (ITN)

for structured doctoral training

▪ Duration of projects: maximum 4 years ▪ Consortium agreement: required only for EID ▪ Fellowships of 3-36 months ▪ Maximum 540 researcher-months per consortium (180 for EID with 2 partners) ▪ Deadlines: April 9 2014, January 13 2015

European Training Networks

Network composition:

  • Min. 3 beneficiaries from

3 MS/AC. Typical size: 6-10 participants.

  • Each beneficiary must

recruit and host at least

  • ne researcher at its

premises.

  • Participation of non-

academic sector considered essential.

  • Secondments to other

beneficiaries and/or partner organisations up to 30% of the researcher recruitment period.

  • Joint supervision

encouraged.

  • Maximum 40% of total

budget to one country.

slide-8
SLIDE 8

European Industrial Doctorates

  • 2 beneficiaries
  • 1 academic
  • 1 non-academic
  • 2 countries (MS/AC)
  • Max. 180 researcher-

months

  • PhD enrollment
  • > 50% of time at non-

academic sector

  • Joint supervision

European Industrial Doctorates

  • 3+ beneficiaries
  • Min. 1 academic
  • Min. 1 non-academic in

2 countries (MS/AC)

  • Additional beneficiaries

any sector, any country

  • Max. 540 researcher-

months

  • PhD enrollment
  • > 50% of time at non-

academic sector

  • Joint supervision

EID Recruitment

Each researcher is recruited:

  • 100% by a beneficiary and sent to other partner(s) for the share of time

foreseen in the project/mode,

OR

  • Separately by each beneficiary for the period of time they spend there.

SLIDE 11

European Joint Doctorates

  • International, intersectoral and multi/inter-disciplinary

collaboration in doctoral-level training in Europe

  • Originally placed under the Erasmus Mundus programme
  • Creation of joint doctoral programmes
  • Delivery of joint, double or multiple doctoral degrees

Joint degree : single diploma issued by at least two higher education institutions

  • ffering integrated programme and recognised officially in the countries where

the degree-awarding institutions are located Double or multiple degree: two or more separate national diplomas issued by two or more higher education institutions and recognised officially in the countries where the degree-awarding institutions are located

European Joint Doctorates

Network composition:

  • At least 3 beneficiaries from different

MS/AC entitled to award doctoral

  • degrees. Additional beneficiaries or

partner organisations from any country, sector and discipline

  • Participation of non-academic sector

essential Requirements:
