We are oriented towards bridging the gap between public policy and the public. ● People funded : We are funded wholly by Indian sources through a membership model on a recurring basis. Over the long term, our model is effective, has legitimacy and is scalable. ● People power: Our interventions match the interest and engagement of online crowds with responsible, strategic institutional engagement. We are players who play to win.

IFF REMAINS EFFECTIVE EVEN DURING THE LOCKDOWN “Privacy prescriptions for technology interventions on Covid-19 in India” - We developed a comprehensive working paper on COVID-19 and surveillance with emphasis on contact tracing. The paper unpacks the challenges with technological deployments and surveillance responses to COVID-19. It studies the emerging views on how to tackle this developing issue considering the world's prior experiences with triggers for creation of mass surveillance systems.

THE GAP India needs an organization like the EFF in US and Open Rights Group in UK which combines expertise in technology policy with the ability to organize public campaigns, advocate to policymakers and, when necessary, go to the courts.   8. OUR CAMPAIGNS Our public campaigns to promote online freedom are central to our work. SAVE THE INTERNET : The SaveTheInternet campaign is a volunteer led effort to uphold a fair and open Internet. Over 1 million Indian citizens have participated at one point or another in the campaign that was started by a group of like minded individuals across India in May 2015. SAVE OUR PRIVACY: SaveOurPrivacy is a public initiative to put forth a model draft law called the Indian Privacy Code, 2018. The mission is to make sure that India gets a data protection law that protects our fundamental right to privacy KEEP US ONLINE : KeepUsOnline petition was filed against the frequent shutdowns in the country, telling the government that Internet shutdowns are unnecessary, harmful, and have no place in a democracy. This petition received over 16,000 signatures.

  9. WE ARE GROWING.. IFF is the right product-market fit. SOLID FIRST YEAR In 2020, IFF has grown to 240 members and over 1100 one time donations and 6 organisational donations. We successfully raised an amount of around Rs 50 lakhs this year. RECURRING DONORS Our real strength lies in our community of more than 300 volunteers and individual donors who have donated to us more than 1500 times over the past year. BEYOND MONEY (skills and time) We have a growing community of volunteers who help us on multiple fronts. This includes lawyers, technologists, designers as well as people who have experience in the tech-policy sector.
