Project description 3 years project (15/11/2019 -14/11/2022) ITACA project deals with the design and building up of a Training Centre, involving EU and local institutions, as well as enterprises active in the field of environmental impact of oil and gas production, to contribute to the strengthening of the relationship between university and industry, by jointly training graduated students to be employed in the field.

The project adequately inscribes itself in the modernisation, development and internationalisation strategy

targeted HEIs from Az members of the consortium, as stated by official acts cited in the proposal. Improvement in the higher education system in this country will be achieved through several actions such as new teaching methodologies, piloting of the 3rd cycle systems and collaboration with local stakeholders.

Work Packages WP1 Selection of the main environmental issues, due to the pollution of oil and gas extraction in Azerbaijan, to be investigated and appointment of the working groups

Outcome This Work Package will identify the major pollution emergencies in Azerbaijan due to the gas and oil extraction, basing on the analysis of available data collected in the last years by national and international institutions and companies. An updated and comprehensive report will be prepared dealing with the evaluation of the impact of oils and gas extraction activities on environmental sectors (water, air, soil). The major risks associated to these activities will be studied, thus identifying the main topics to be investigated and deepened in the Training Centre with the collaboration of EU experts.

WP2 Design of a Training Centre to face the pollution due to Gas and Oil extraction in Azerbaijan

The Training Centre will be organized in 4 Laboratories. Each Laboratory will be equipped with instruments and devices shared by the partners, and with further appropriate equipment and pilot units procured from the grant. A lab AZ coordinator will be identified, and one or more EU experts will join lab activities. Equipment procurement procedures must start immediately after grant agreement signature, to be completed on time for the Training Centre opening.
