Introduction  The NRP and NRP jr is an NTU outreach programme designed for students from selected Secondary Schools, and all IP (Integrated Programme) Schools and Junior Colleges  NRP projects will only be offered to Year 5 or JC 1 students of IP Schools and Junior Colleges respectively  NRP jr will be offered to Sec 3 students in Secondary Schools, and Year 3 and 4 students in IP Schools  NRP and NRP jr students will be required to work with an NTU Faculty for 8 months (from April to December) and will culminate in the submission of a Research Paper in January of the following year, and a Oral Presentation in March of the following year

  5. N R P vs . H 3 Science Research  JC1 students who will be taking the GCE A-Level Examinations in JC2 can opt to offer their NRP project as an NTU-H3 Science Research project if their project falls into the Engineering and Sciences categories o Students who opt to take H3 Science Research will be offering the project as an A-Level examinable subject o The confirmation of the offer of H3 Science Research will be subject to endorsement from the student’s school as well as the NRP Supervisor

H 3 Science Research  Students who opt to offer their project as H3 Science Research must work individually on a project that is unique o The student must not work with a partner o No other student must have worked on a project bearing a similar title o The student will be awarded a GCE A-Level grade certified by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) – the final grade obtained will only be released with the student’s A -Level results in February following the completion of the student’s JC2 year

Role of the Supervisor  To interview and select students to work on the proposed research topic  To ensure that there is sufficient contact hours with the student(s)  To coach and provide guidance to the student(s) throughout the duration of the research period  To ensure the student(s) is given sufficient exposure to research work in the laboratory (applicable to projects which require laboratory-based research)  To monitor and provide feedback on the student’s attendance and progress  To evaluate and grade the student(s) research disposition and submitted reports

  12. N R P Research Fund  Each NRP project may claim to a maximum of S$600 (including GST) for the cost of lab or other consumables required for the NRP research project.  The NRP research grant is to be used for claims on consumables which are directly related to / used for the NRP research project. Such purchases must be made during the period of research, from May to December.  Approval must be sought from the Director of Admissions before any purchase is made via completing Purchase Approval Form. Purchases made without prior approval will not be reimbursed.  Resources that are already available for research use in the university should not be purchased as NRP project consumables.  3 quotations must be sought for the purchase of all equipment, components, utensils and assets. Quotations are required for the purchase of single items amounting or equal to (>)S$100 (GST inclusive) .

N R P Research Fund  Supervisors may opt to pay out of pocket for the items first and seek reimbursement thereafter or arrange for payment through your School’s cost centre and seek reimbursement after.  Original receipts, bearing the name of the Supervisor must be submitted to the Office of Admissions  All claims are to be endorsed by the NTU School’s appointed signatory /approving officer before submission to the Office of Admissions  The list of designated approving officers as well as all approval and claim forms can be found here: http://www.ntu.edu.sg/TalentOutreach/NRP/Pages/ResourcesforSupervisors.aspx

Refreshments & entertainment Food & beverage. Gifts / Tokens Gifts, prizes, incentives, tokens of appreciation, cash and food items. Stationery All stationery items. Printer consumables Ink & toner cartridges. Subscription fees For journals, magazines and memberships. Transportation costs Reimbursement for transportation & parking expenses. Miscellaneous expenses Fines, penalties, conference registration fees, training, marketing, advertising, promoting, web development, consultancy, audit, legal, insurance premiums, repairs / maintenance of research equipment, repairs of IT / communication equipment, outsourcing / subcontracting of research work.
