Tasting Notes “Initially, rich fruits on the nose, notably ripe peaches. Vanilla, treacle toffee, milk chocolate and a hint of lime develop over time. The fruits carry over from the nose

Highland Queen was founded and first produced in 1893 by Roderick Macdonald, and represents the enduring and noble values, history and independent spirit of Scotland and its whiskies, embodied in the legendary character of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland. Once an exclusive blend has been achieved, the art of the distillers and blenders must be safeguarded down the ages to ensure that its identity remains constant forever. The Highland Queen Century Edition holds a bottle of the Highland Queen Majesty Limited Edition 52yo Highland Single Malt, and a bottle of the Highland Queen 1561 50yo blended Scotch Whisky. Together these whiskies represent over a century of tradition and passion which have gone into creating these sublime whiskies. Highland Queen Majesty 52yo Highland Single Malt is from our last three casks, which were distilled in December 1962 and bottled in January 2015. Aged in oak casks in our warehouses for 52 years, only 500 bottles could be produced from these three casks, the angels having taken more than their fair share of this superb malt

Highland Queen 1561 50yo blended whisky has been created by our master distiller from our two remaining casks of 1964 Highland Single Malt, which have been married with different grain whiskies from both the Invergordon and now closed Port Dundas distilleries. After blending we have recasked the whisky into brand new sherry butts for an additional 6 months to allow the whiskies to marry together perfectly to achieve what is an amazingly smooth and complex Scotch Whisky. The finish is exceptionally long and smooth. Highland Queen Majesty 52yo Highland Single Malt For a malt of this age there are lovely sweet and creamy notes of vanilla showing that the casks must have been of exceptional quality. Rich marzipan and summer fruits can also be detected. In the mouth the sweetness of the marzipan and the vanilla, mingle with notes of dried fruit and almonds. A wonderfully mellow malt.

Flavour The taste is light bodied and sweet with the honey and apples initially detectable on the nose picked up on tasting. There is also a liquorice taste present at the back of the palate, which remains into the finish. Finish Short.

Highland Queen 1561 - Our Signature Blend The origin of the Highland Queen name comes from the association of Leith, the original bottling site of Highland Queen by the harbour, and the triumphal arrival of Mary Stuart at this spot from France in 1561. Mary was the Queen of Scots, one of Scotland's most famous and loved legends. Today the brand is owned by one of Scotland's few remaining family owned distillers. The brand was first produced in 1893. The original brand Guidelines written in 1893 state:
- ‘The product should be identifiably superior in quality and formulation to comparative
brands’
- ‘The product should contain first class malts which should be blended in a high ratio to the
grain content’ The original founder, Mr Roderick Macdonald, believed it necessary to mature the malt whisky to be used in a blend for at least 7 years, which ensures a smooth taste and mellower aroma. "Highland Queen should be known the world over as one of Scotland's premium blends“ In respect of the heritage of Highland Queen, and in these times of mass production, we have elected to return to our origins to create our signature blend. Highland Queen 1561 is blended with a high ratio (over 60%) of first class malts. A high percentage of older malts have also been used in the blending to create an incredibly smooth and mellow whisky. Highland Queen is presented in a premium packaging, reminiscent of the fine scotch whiskies produced by Roderick Macdonald.

Highland Queen was founded and first produced in 1893 by Roderick Macdonald, and represents the enduring and noble values, history and independent spirit of Scotland and its whiskies, embodied in the legendary character of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland. Once an exclusive blend has been achieved, the art of the distillers and blenders must be safeguarded down the ages to ensure that its identity remains constant forever. In the first half of the 20th century, the traditional way of producing blended Scotch Whisky was to blend together the grain and the malt whisky, and then to recask the whisky into oak barrels for a further period of up to 6
- months. This enabled the different elements of the blend to marry together
- perfectly. This practise disappeared many years ago from the industry as it
was not economically viable. To celebrate the 120th anniversary of Highland Queen, we have decided to produce a limited volume of this exclusive 30 years old blend in the traditional
- manner. Our master distiller has taken a selection of top quality malts from
1982, and married this together with a selection of grain whiskies from 1978 and 1979. Highland Queen has always been renowned for the high percentage of malt used in its blends, and this is reflected in the 30 years old blend which has a malt content of over 75%! This blend has then been recasked into sherry butts, which were widely used in the 20th century in the Scotch Whisky industry, and left to marry together for a further 6 months. “The result we leave with confidence to your judgement”
