Graduation Requirements • Language Arts 4.0 credits • Social Studies 3.0 credits • Mathematics 3.0 credits • Science 3.0 credits • Fine Arts 1.0 credit • Practical Arts 1.0 credit • Physical Education 1.0 credit • Health .5 credit • Personal Finance .5 credit • Electives 8.5 credits • Total Units 25.5 credits

  4. Language Arts • 4 credits required for graduation • Required course for all Freshmen – English 1 • EOC Exam is in sophomore year (English 2)

  5. Social Studies • 3 credits required for graduation • Required course for all Freshmen • American History • EOC Exam is in junior year (Government) The State of Missouri requires students complete 1.0 credit of American History and a 0.5 credit of American Government, as well as pass the MO Constitution and US Constitution tests.

  6. Mathematics • 3 credits required at HHS for graduation • Required course for all HHS Graduates – Algebra 1 • EOC Exam is taken upon completion of Algebra 1 (if Algebra 1 is taken in 8th grade, those students will take an EOC Exam after Algebra 2)

  7. Science • 3 credits required for graduation • Freshmen will take Environmental Science • Sophomores will take Biology 1 – current 8th graders in Algebra 1 with a B or higher can take Biology 1 as a freshman in place of Environmental Science • EOC Exam is given at the end of the sophomore year (Biology 1)

  8. Foreign Language • Not a graduation requirement at HHS • May take up to five levels of Spanish (four if starting in 9 th grade) • May take up to four levels of French • At least two levels of the same foreign language are required by some colleges

  9. Health • 0.5 credit required to graduate (1 semester) • Recommended in either 9 th or 10 th grade • May be taken during summer school as early as the end of your 8th grade year

  10. Personal Finance • 0.5 credit required to graduate (1 semester) • Course must be taken in grades 10-12 • May be taken during summer school as early as the end of your 9th grade year

  11. Physical Education • 1 credit required (2 semesters grades 9-12) – Boys or Girls Team Sports •May only be taken twice – Aerobics – Lifetime Sports (11 th /12 th grade) – Weights or Girls Weights •May be taken as a zero hour (6:45 a.m.) •May be taken all 4 years

  12. Fine Art • 1 credit required to graduate (2 semesters) • Courses may be taken from the following areas: – Art – Choir – Band – Theatre – History of Rock n Roll

  13. Practical Arts • 1 credit required to graduate (2 semesters) • Courses may be taken from the following areas: – Business & Computer Science – Leadership & Marketing – Journalism – Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) – Engineering & Industrial Technology – Career/Technical courses at CCC

Cass Career Center Students may take courses in the areas of: • Agriculture (hourly) - may take Ag Science 1 in 9th grade • Marketing (hourly) - may take Leadership in 9th grade • Auto Maintenance & Light Repair • Computer Networking/Cybersecurity • Criminal Justice/CSI • EMT • Fire Science • Construction Tech • Welding • Health Sciences (1 year program for seniors only) • English 4 (integrated into 3 hour block classes) • Math 4 (integrated into 3 hour block classes)

  15. Summit Technology Academy Students may take classes from the following programs in 11th and 12th grade: • Engineering • Computer Science • Health Science • Human Services and Finance • Arts and Communication To learn about the classes offered within each program, please visit STA’s website at https://sta.lsr7.org/

  16. A+ Program • State and district-funded program to encourage post-secondary education • Provides tuition assistance for full-time students to any public Missouri community college or technical school • Students complete the Statement of Intent Form in the Program of Studies Guide and turn in to the Counseling Office

  17. A+ Requirements • Attend an A+ School for two out of the four years • Graduate with an unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher • Maintain a 95% attendance record in grades 9-12 • Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring in our district • Maintain a good citizenship record and avoid the use of alcohol and unlawful drugs • Score a Proficient or Advanced on the Algebra 1 EOC Exam

MSHSAA Eligibility • All incoming freshmen are eligible for participation in athletics and activities. • Once in high school, students maintain eligibility by: – Earn at least 3.0 credits in the semester prior to participation – Enroll in at least 6 classes during semester of participation • The Cass R-9 Activities Handbook has more detailed information for athletics & activities.

  19. What do YOU Want to do After High School? • Apprenticeships • Military • Community & Technical Colleges • Missouri Public or 4-Year Colleges • MU, KU, or other major university

  20. College Entrance Requirements • Language Arts 4 credits • Social Studies 3 credits • Math (Alg 1 or higher) 3 or 4 credits • Science (Bio/Chem/Physics) 3 credits • Fine Arts 1 credit • Foreign Language – some colleges require 2 credits of the same Foreign Language ***It is not too early to start looking at college websites for their freshman admission requirements

  21. National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) • Before a student is eligible to participate in college athletics at the NCAA Division I or II or the NAIA level, the NCAA Clearinghouse must certify the student has taken a college prep curriculum. • Division I & Division II (16 core) require credits in core subject areas. The HHS diploma requires 13 core credits, so your student must be sure to take 3 additional core courses in high school, which includes foreign language. • Your student should register in spring of the Junior year online at ncaaeligibilitycenter.org

Course Selection Process • Review Enrollment Information on our website – http://harrisonvilleschools.schoolwires.net/domain/185 • Complete Course Enrollment Form focusing on your Career Path with Counselor, Advisor, Teachers & Parents – Be sure to list alternate courses at the bottom DUE March 5th • Parent & Student attend Advisory Night March 10th – your new advisor will email you with a link to schedule a 15-minute time slot – Course Enrollment Forms are finalized at this time
