“For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but

whoever loses their life for me will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?”

1 So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed

  • him. Then he commanded him: “Do not

marry a Canaanite woman. 2 Go at once to Paddan Aram, to the house of your mother‟s father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters

  • f Laban, your mother‟s brother. 3 May

God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples. 4 May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.” 5 Then Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, who was the mother of Jacob and Esau

1Vtedy si Izák zavolal Jákoba, požehnal ho a

prikázal mu: Neber si ženu spomedzi Kanaánok. 2Vyber sa, choď do Paddán- Aramu, do domu Betúéla, otca tvojej matky, a vezmi si odtiaľ ženu z dcér Lábána, brata tvojej matky. 3Nech ťa všemohúci Boh požehná, urobí ťa plodným a rozmnoží ťa, aby si sa stal spoločenstvom národov. 4Nech ti dá požehnanie Abrahámovo, tebe i tvojmu potomstvu, aby si zaujal krajinu, v ktorej bývaš ako cudzinec, a ktorú Boh dal Abrahámovi. 5Tak Izák vypravil Jákoba a ten

  • dišiel do Paddán-Aramu k Lábánovi, synovi

Aramejca Betúéla a bratovi Rebeky, matky Jákoba a Ézava.

10Jákob odišiel z Beér-Šeby a šiel

do Cháránu. 13A hľa, Hospodin stál nad ním a hovoril: Ja som Hospodin Boh tvojho otca Abraháma a Boh Izákov; zem, na ktorej ležíš, dám tebe a tvojim potomkom. 15Ajhľa, ja som s tebou a budem ťa ochraňovať všade, kadiaľ pôjdeš, dovediem ťa späť do tejto krajiny, lebo ja ťa neopustím, kým nesplním, čo som ti zasľúbil.

10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. 11 When he reached a certain place, he

stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. 12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 There above it stood the LORD, and he said: “I am the LORD, the God

  • f your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I

will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

Čie očakávania budeme žiť?

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him” 1 Corinthians 2:9 “Ale, ako je napísané: Ani oko nevídalo, ani ucho neslýchalo, ani do srdca človeku nevstúpilo, čo pripravil Boh tým, ktorí Ho milujú.” 1 Korintským 2:9

1 Then Jacob continued on his journey…13

As soon as Laban heard the news about Jacob, his sister‟s son, he hurried to meet him…16 Now Laban had two daughters; the name of the older was Leah, and the name

  • f the younger was Rachel…18 Jacob was

in love with Rachel… 20 So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel…22 So Laban brought together all the people of the place and gave a feast. 23 But when evening came, he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob, and Jacob made love to her… 25 Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? I served you for Rachel, didn‟t I? Why have you deceived me?” …30his love for Rachel was greater than his love for Leah…31 When the LORD saw that Leah was not loved, he enabled her to conceive, but Rachel remained childless.

  • Lea. Vtedy povedal Lábánovi: Čo si mi to

urobil?

Prepusť ma, rád by som odišiel domov…31On [Laban] sa ho opýtal: Čo ti mám dať?... 32Dnes prejdem celým tvojím stádom; vylúč odtiaľ každý fľakatý a strakatý kus…a to mi bude odmenou…

43Tak sa tento muž nesmierne vzmohol,

mal veľké stáda, slúžky aj sluhov, ťavy aj osly.

1 When Rachel

saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister. So she said to Jacob, “Give me children, or I‟ll die!” 2 Jacob became angry with her and said, “Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children?” 3 Then she said, “Here is Bilhah, my

  • servant. Sleep with her so that she can bear children

for me and I too can build a family through her.”… 6 Then Rachel said, “God has vindicated me; he has listened to my plea and given me a son.”… 25Jacob said to Laban, “Send me on my way so I can go back to my own homeland... 30when may I do something for my own household?” 31 “What shall I give you?” he [Laban] asked…32 Let me go through all your flocks today and remove from them every speckled or spotted sheep…they will be my wages…

43 In this way the man grew exceedingly prosperous

and came to own large flocks, and female and male servants, and camels and donkeys.

slide-9

3 Then the LORD said to Jacob, “Go back to

the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you.”…20Jacob deceived Laban the Aramean by not telling him he was running away. 21 So he fled with all he had, crossed the Euphrates River, and headed for the hill country of Gilead...

23Laban pursued Jacob for seven days… 26 Then Laban said to Jacob, “What have you

done? You‟ve deceived me, and you‟ve carried off my daughters like captives in war.

27 Why did you run off secretly and deceive

me? Why didn‟t you tell me, so I could send you away with joy and singing to the music of timbrels and harps? 28 You didn‟t even let me kiss my grandchildren and my daughters

  • goodbye. You have done a foolish thing. 29 I

have the power to harm you

3Vtedy Hospodin riekol Jákobovi: Vráť sa

do krajiny svojich otcov, do svojho rodiska, a ja budem s tebou…20Tak Jákob oklamal Sýrčana Lábána, keďže mu neoznámil, že chce utiecť.

21A utiekol so všetkým, čo mal

. Vzchopil sa, prebrodil Eufrat a

  • brátil sa smerom ku Gileádskemu

pohoriu… 23Lábán vzal so sebou svojich príbuzných, prenasledoval ho sedem dní cesty… 27Prečo si mi zatajil, že hodláš ujsť, a prečo si ma okradol? Neoznámil si mi to, aby som ťa mohol s radosťou vypraviť so spevmi, s bubnami a harfami,

28a nedovolil si mi pobozkať vnukov a

dcéry. To si urobil nerozumne. 29Mal by som dosť moci urobiť vám zle…

40 This was my situation: The heat

consumed me in the daytime and the cold at night, and sleep fled from my eyes.

41 It was like this for

the twenty years I was in your household. I worked for you fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flocks, and you changed my wages ten times. 42 If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, you would surely have sent me away empty-handed.

40Stávalo sa, že ma vo dne

morilahorúčosť a v noci mráz, a spánok unikal mojim

42Keby nebol so mnou Boh môjho

  • tca, Boh Abrahámov, a Ten, ktorého

sa bál Izák, veru by si ma bol prepustil naprázdno. Ale Boh videl moje trápenie i lopotu mojich rúk, preto ťa minulej noci napomenul.

7 In great fear and distress Jacob divided the

people who were with him into two groups, and the flocks and herds and camels as well.

8 He thought, “If Esau comes and attacks one

group, the group that is left may escape.”

9 Then Jacob prayed,

“O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, LORD, you who said to me, „Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper,‟

10 I am unworthy of all the

kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two camps. 11 Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, and also the mothers with their children.

12 But you have said, „I will surely make you

prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.‟”

7Potom sa poslovia vrátili k Jákobovi a povedali:

Došli sme k tvojmu bratovi Ézavovi, ktorý ti ide

  • proti, a s ním 400 mužov. 8Vtedy sa Jákoba

zmocnil veľký strach a úzkosť.

22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two

female servants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions. 24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.

25 When the man saw that he could not

  • verpower him, he touched the socket of

Jacob‟s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” 27 The man asked him, “What is your name?” “Jacob,” he answered.

28 Then the man said, “Your name will no

longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”

29 Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.”

But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there.

30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I

saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”

31 The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he

was limping because of his hip. 32 Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacob‟s hip was touched near the tendon.

23Ešte tej noci vstal, vzal svoje obidve ženy i obe

  • Jabboku. 24Vzal ich a prepravil cez potok; prepravil

  • nen mu povedal: Pusť ma, lebo

vychádza ranná zora! Jákob však

  • dpovedal: Nepustím ťa, iba ak ma

požehnáš. 28Ten sa ho opýtal: Ako sa voláš? On odpovedal: Jákob. 29Vtedy

meno? A tam ho požehnal.

“18 After Jacob came

from Paddan Aram, he arrived safely at the city of Shechem in Canaan and camped within sight of the city.

19 For a hundred pieces

  • f silver, he bought from

the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, the plot of ground where he pitched his tent. 20 There he set up an altar and called it El Elohe Israel.” Gen 32:18-20

Gen 32:18-20
