Option 1| Rebuild both Taylor MS & Warrenton MS

What is the total project cost?

(includes escalation over time)

How long will it take to complete? 7.25 years $98 million

Current capacity between the two schools is 1,092

Replace both schools at 650 capacity each

After the new Taylor is built, move Warrenton students into current Taylor MS during construction

  • f Warrenton. If Warrenton would be rebuilt first,

students would have to be housed in portables (a significant disruption and cost)

Rebuild Taylor MS first

There would likely be some Middle School boundary changes to best utilize both schools

Consider boundary adjustments

Option 2| Consolidate Taylor MS & Warrenton MS into a new MS on Taylor’s site

How long will it take to complete? 4 years

$55-61 million Taylor site is larger & 7.5 acres of the Warrenton site is currently occupied by the

  • County. Students would stay in their current

facilities until construction is complete.

Build on the Taylor site

The new school on the Taylor site would include historical references to honor Mr. Taylor and Taylor MS. The original Warrenton MS building would be retained and repurposed.

Honor history

There would likely be some middle school boundary changes with adjacent schools

Consider boundary adjustments

2A – Build at 1,000 capacity ($55 million) 2B—Build at 900 capacity plus 300 addition at Auburn MS ($61 million)

What is the total project cost ?

(includes escalation over time)

Questionnaire| Q#2

The Options Committee (School Division leadership, board representatives, and citizen Advisory Committee representatives) selected the current Taylor Middle School site for the consolidated school option. The Options Committee made this decision for the following reasons: 1. The School Division owns more land that can be developed at the Taylor MS site than can be developed at the Warrenton MS site (Taylor 25 acres vs. Warrenton 22 acres). 2. Of the 22 total acres on the Warrenton site, only 14.5 acres are currently available as the county administrative annex occupies part of the Warrenton MS site. 3. Current plans for the County to move the annex are not time-specific. The School Division would need to wait for the annex to move before considering the Warrenton MS site for a consolidated school, and every year the Division has to wait, construction costs escalate. Given the above factors, rate your support for considering the Taylor Middle School site OR the Warrenton Middle School site for a consolidated middle school. Questionnaire| Q#5 & Q#6

Q#5 Are there any changes you would make to your preferred option? Q#6 If one of the consolidated school options is selected, what are some potential reuses of the original Warrenton building that you would like the School Division to consider? (Some ideas that have been suggested include, but are not limited to: Relocation of the Community Center, Relocation of the Alternative High School, School Division Administration building)
