Library Renewal Project: Community Input

Repeatedly expressed has been a desire to increase the natural light coming into the building. Beginning in August 2013, the Library has held dozens of meetings, public events, and presentations to the Library Board and City Council. Distilling these discussions, the community said they’d like the Library Renewal Project to:

• 1. Repair and restore the Library, a major City asset
• 2. Honor the original Carnegie Library at the core of

the building

• 3. Prepare the Library for the future

Clerestory Windows Timeline

• 1. Dec. 2017: At one of these community meetings project

architect Karin Payson suggested some possible ways to add natural light that she wanted to investigate.

• 2. Feb. 2018: Ms. Payson sent a sketch of her favored

solution - the clerestory window.

• 3. Mar. 2018: Clerestory sketch presented at Renewal

Project community meeting and further concept development was requested.

• 4. Aug. 2018: Included in Design

Drawings and reviewed at community meeting, clerestory was okayed to advance to Construction Drawings.
