"People are not respecting the music. [They] really feel like music is free, but will pay $6 for water. It's just the mindset right now."
Jay-Z purchased TIDAL from Aspiro in 2015. He wanted to bring forth a streaming platform that values artists and their work. TIDAL is owned by artists, with part-owners including: Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Daft Punk, Jason Aldean, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Madonna, just to name a few.
Richard Sanders
Richard Sanders is the current CEO of TIDAL. He is a music industry professional, formerly
Global Marketing at Sony, and held executive roles at RCA and Artista Records.

Marcel Claure, Executive Chariman at Sprint, is on TIDAL's Board of Directors. He comes from a technology and communications background. Sprint purchases 33% of TIDAL in 2017 at an estimated $200M price tag. The partnerships allows TIDAL to connect with Sprint's customers.

TIDAL is a private company so they are not required to publish their financial information. Sources state that Tidal has around 1,000,000 users, so we can use that number to estimate revenue. TIDAL earns $10M in revenue if every user is on a regular premium plan. But as you'll see on the next slide, this can vary depending on what plan the users have.

Aggregator
Artists can get on TIDAL through a digital aggregator. Labels can also distribute directly to the platform, but indie artists cannot directly distribute to the platform.
Major Label
TIDAL recommends using Tunecore, Indigoboom, DistroKid and Record Union to get your music on their platform. However, most (if not all), aggregators will deliver your music to TIDAL.
HiFi Listening Curated content by editorial team Import Playlists from
Offline listening
TIDAL has many features for it's paying customers. Perhaps the most important is the ability to listen to music in high fidelity. HiFi plans enable users to listen to music that has not been compressed, giving them the ultimate user experience. Customers can also import their playlists from other platforms (like Spotify), listen to music offline, and access articles, exclusive interviews, and curated playlists by TIDAL's editorial team.
TIDAL allows you to download digital music on their Download Homepage (Desktop). Once you complete your purchase, the files will be stored on your Tidal account. You will also be emailed a download link. Customers can purchases lossless and MP3 files.
HiFi Listening Artist Owned Platform Competitive Payouts What sets TIDAL apart from other streaming platforms is that they allow the customer to listen to HiFi music. Streaming platforms are often criticized by audiophiles due to low quality sound and compression, but TIDAL curbs that concern. TIDAL is also owned by artists and stands up to tech platforms that devalue music. Since TIDAL is owned by artist and is pro-music, it should be no surprise that their royalty rate per stream is one of the highest on the market.

TIDAL is one of the top paying streaming platforms. This chart was compiled using royalty data released by an indie label.
FOR ARTISTS
I recommend artists to get their music on TIDAL because it pays a high royalty rate, values music, and was created as the alternative to tech companies mining dollars out of music. TIDAL is a platform that appreciates artists and their work. It is also beautifully designed and can compete with any other platform, in terms of quality, accessibility, and catalogue size.
FOR Music fANS
I recommend music fans to use TIDAL because it offer many affordable plans and has a huge catalogue of music. TIDAL also has content that is exclusively on their platform, such as behind the scenes videos, live show coverage, and private interviews. Furthermore, fans can feel great knowing they are supporting a platform that appreciates artists and their work.
